David Corbet
Featured in this edition is a transcript of a conversation between Zjamal Xanitha and Helen Clarke Lapin, two of Australiaís most experienced practitioners and teachers of CI. Amongst other things, the article raises issues about teacher training. For me this raised questions such as - what pre-requisites are necessary to teach CI? What concerns should people interested in teaching contact be aware of? Does being a good contact dancer neccessarily equate with being a good teacher? Is it okay to teach just what you know without having a broader understanding of the context and history of CI?
In Germany recently there was ECITE - a CI teachers conference. Rinske Ginsberg attended ECITE and hopefully next edition will share some reflections on this event. Closer to home there plans are underway for CIMATTI, a mixed ability and CI teacher training intensive being organised for early 2000 in Auckland, NZ by Catherine Chappell. Subject to receiving funding, this event should see a wealth of information and exchange brought to our region.
Recently we have established
ties with the German CI magazine CIM and in their latest edition an article
by Peter Trotman from an earlier
