Hellene Gronda

I’ve been thinking of a phrase recently: “the mind is a muscle”. I think it’s the name of a dance by Simone Forti. My mind like most city-dwellers’ is an over-worked muscle. With all that economic pressure and endlessly increasing productivity, it is hard to take a rest. It’s easy to forget that mental work is physical work. Resting and rolling. Rolling and resting. Two parts of my favourite Contact warm-up (or warm-down). Resting is an integral part of physical practice. I’m trying to remember that in my working world and maybe I’ll catch more rides.
So I hope you get to curl up with Proximity and roll restfully through its pages. But you might not avoid excitement. There’s a discussion with Nancy Stark Smith on Contact and performance, the news on writings about mixed ability dance, a whiff of teaching notes from Martin Keogh and more. Enjoy!

Love from Proximity

P.S. Have you been wanting to make this space yours, but never quite getting around to it? It’s true that writing is hard. Remember: rest and roll and catch rides whenever you can. (There’s flying to be had …)
