Hello everyone

Hello especially to New Zealand. How was your Nelson CI Jam? Write to us about it. Sadly, the Easter Jam in Natimuk, Victoria is not on this year (though people may do an impromptu camping version). Any disappointment is a tribute to State of Flux and all their work hosting it over the last few years. (We love you flux!) I’ve been told to stay tuned for another event later in the year.

I’ve just returned from a three week intensive with Nancy Stark Smith and am full of thoughts about jamming skills. Read some of them in this edition along with Pen Dale writing about becoming a contact improvisor. Her beginner’s tale is funny and intelligent. Truth is you never really master the form, you just keep extending your range, options and engagement with the process. Yay for that!

Also regular <proximity> contributer and international performer, Paul Roberts, talks to Rosalind Crisp about performing, improvising and the search for physical ideas. They get me wondering: How does an idea become clear in the body? And just who is listening to dance in Australia?

happy dancing all
Hellene
